Michelle Newland has dedicated much of her time during her years of recovery to supporting numerous community organisations. Her work as an Ambassador for the Summer Foundation "from 2008-2025" has contributed to raising the profile regarding the issue of young people in nursing homes. Infact, in November 2025 a legislation change to 'The Age Care Act' was introduced stopping young people from entering residential aged care homes. Michelle was so thrilled with this outcome.

Michelle has been recognised on several occasions for her outstanding commitment and voluntary work. Michelle was a state finalist in the category of Courage for the Pride of Australia Award in 2013.
